Midwest Power Series heads West to I-90

In the 6 seasons the Midwest Power Series has raced 360 sprint cars in the area, the series has completed 45 features at 12 different tracks. On Saturday, the I-90 speedway just outside Hartford, SD takes center stage for the first time and becomes track number 13.

The Dekalb/Asgrow Midwest Power Series will partner with the Midwest Sprint Touring Series to co-sanction the festivities, making Saturday the first time the two sanctioning bodies will work together outside of the Jackson Motorplex for a $2,000 to win sprint car spectacle. The I-90 Speedway will be the Western-most track ever raced by the Midwest Power Series, and the first time the series has visited the state of South Dakota. While the series has not visited I-90 Speedway, the track is no stranger to sprint car racing. The venue has a long history of sprint car racing in many forms, including 5 360 sprint cars shows in 2020 with a strong average of around 21 cars per event this season.

The series is coming off a doubleheader weekend dominated by Justin Henderson, who is currently the point leader as well. A wrench may be thrown in the points standings as in all likelihood Henderson will be racing in Knoxville on Saturday. The points lead will be up for grabs, and a number of drivers are in a position to move up in the standings. Jack Dover sits in second in the points standings currently and though he is without a win he is yet to finish outside of the top 10 in any MPS competition in 2020. Dover has also won two of the five MSTS features in Hartford this season. A few other drivers set to make the trip are the Broty brothers (James and Scott) Derrik Lusk, and Chase Viebrock. Throw those together with the likes of Eric Lutz, Jody Rosenboom, Justin Jacobsma, and Ryan Bickett (the most recent winner last Saturday) who are in the top 5 in MSTS points along with Dover, and you have all the makings for a star studded field.

Track Facts:
I-90 speedway is a 3/8ths mile dirt oval with 22 degrees of banking. The racetrack opened in 1976 and has gone by a couple of names in its history. The track originally opened as a half mile but was cut down to it’s current configuration in 1988. Currently, the track races IMCA Racesaver sprint cars weekly.
